Things To Do In Northumberland
To compliment our Blog Post 'The Big 5 - Top Days Out In Northumberland' we thought we'd write an additional piece for the frequent fliers; the returnees who realise there's so much here that they come back and back ... here's our thoughts for you!
There's a whole scene around surfing, paddle boarding and cold water swimming or dipping. If you're a beginner, then there's plenty of classes to go to; the more experienced among you might strike off on your own, but ensure you take advice from the local coast guard and online safety information, as some beaches are better than others for these activities. Try https://kaadventuresports.co.uk for starters and more advice, they're based in Beadnell. If you fancy a dip in the North Sea (great fun, but not for the faint hearted) try Mind Dippers - they have a Facebook page and are lovely friendly group who have regular dips throughout the year! https://coquetshorebasetrust.org.uk also run sailing, canoeing or paddle boarding lessons, plus do Guided trips down the river at Amble/Warkworth. To learn to scuba (probably in the company of seals) check out https://deepbluepirates.net based out of Seahouses. If you're staying with us at https://beachandquiet.co.uk/our-cottages/dunstan-hall why not book as a group and get the fun of trying something different all together!
If you love the romance of a steam train, why not ride the https://alnvalleyrailway.co.uk based just outside Alnwick. Fab for little ones, or much older ones, who remember going on their holidays on a steam train. Check out their website to see which days the volunteers are running the steam train!
If you've visited before, you will almost certainly have already been to the Farne Islands; this time, why not try the Puffin Cruises out of Amble, which travel to Coquet Island to see both seals and puffins (in season) check out https://puffincruises.co.uk their boat trip around Coquet Island was voted in the Top 10 best venues to visit in the British Isles.
2024 sees the 80th Anniversay of D-Day and Blyth Battery plus Alnwick and Bamburgh Castles have various events and re-enactments planned over May and June. Check out their websites, if this is your bag.
Travelling back in time a little further, if you're visiting as part of a big family celebration, how about treating your loved one to a once in a lifetime trip in a Tiger Moth! For flights from Eshott, just outside Morpeth check out https://tigerflights.co.uk
There's so much more to see and do, but hopefully these little ideas have been enough to whet your appetite further ....
