Jo's Favourite Northumberland Walk ....

Jo Tompkins is a Director of NBNE Signs in Alnwick; we asked her for her favourite walk in Northumberland and this is what she said ....

"One of my favourite walks is St Cuthbert's Cave, around 10 minutes drive from Belford.  We used to do the walk regularly when we travelled up from Whitley Bay to visit family in Belford.  Now we live up in Northumberland I still really enjoy it and went a few weeks ago with friends (some of whom had never been).

There's a small National Trust car park at Holburn Grange. From there it's around 15 minutes walk up to the cave.  Go up the track (slight incline) then turn right at the top. It's mostly flat after that.  Don't just stop at St Cuthert's Cave though - if you are able to walk further, go and explore Holburn Rocks which are  another 10 minutes along the path.  Personally I think they are much more impressive!

 If you don't want the faff of taking a picnic, I'd recommend brunch before or after at Carnaby's (at Brownieside, just off the A1).  They have some gorgeous brunch dishes, personally I love the veggie breakfast with a flat white.  If you want lunch afterward instead they offer a large range of homemade salads which go really well with a savoury pastry, pie or quiche!
