Fancy a micro-Staycation?

A piece in 'The Guardian' this week speaks about people choosing to take a short-break within an hour from home; global uncertainty, potential disruption to flights and rising costs were cited as the reasons.

Our stats would bear that out, with 33% of our Guests travelling, certainly less than two hours, either from Newcastle or Durham and the surrounds, but also from North Yorkshire, or the other way from the Edinburgh/Glasgow corridor. Not only that but 52% of our Guests are 'regulars' which means that many of them make the trip to the same place over and over again.

Why would you do that? Well it's not just convenience; having commuted to Newcastle from the Northumberland Coast for work for many years, I can attest that your shoulders start dropping and you start relaxing the minute you start seeing open fields; for Guests, when they're familiar with the relatively short journey, the destination and in lots of cases, the same well-presented property, it feels like coming home and it's both reassuring and immediately calming.

Of course the Northumberland Coast is 'magic' - the sense of history, timelessness and the great swathes of Outstanding Natural Beauty provide perspective and balance in turbulent times. Increasingly, people don't want to be thrashing off exploring in far flung locations, but are seeking an easier, gentler time, requiring far less head-space. The spectacular culinary scene here, built on fresh local produce and innovative restaurants, pop-ups, food wagons, breweries and distilleries, mean that a 'treat' meal or experience are easy to find (don't forget to Book.) It makes this area a 'foodies' dream! Check out the variety on offer here https://www.visitnorthumberland.com/taste-of-northumberland

But the 'Guardian' article also spoke about 'short-breaks' and 'why not?' given the ease of access, what's on offer and the immediate relaxation, it's not just cost that is driving people to take short breaks, some are also taking more of them, splitting the year and giving themselves something 'to look forward to' or trying different seasons - so you can choose a long-weekend, or a mid-week break, both increasingly popular.

So, if you fancy a micro Staycation in the late Summer or early Autumn, get in touch - we've got a range of properties to chose from, so whether you're an individual, couple or large family group, there's something for everyone; plus half are dog-friendly!
