Hemmel House

This elegant property is newly built in traditional style using local craftsmen and materials, has direct rural views and exudes period charm.

Hemmel House is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in the heart of the Northumbrian countryside, just under a mile from the harbour village of Craster. Craster is a quaint harbour village and the start of a beautiful cliff coastal walk to Dunstanburgh Castle and beyond. This holiday property is spacious and impressive, beautifully constructed, oozing elegance and with state-of-the-art eco features and fittings. The double-aspect picture windows in two of the ground floor rooms give uninterrupted rural views with the sea and Dunstanburgh Castle on the horizon. The beautiful beach at Embleton Bay is a mile or so north along a pretty bridleway. An excellent holiday base to enjoy the marvellous beaches, dunes and walks along the Northumberland coast. There is a wealth of historical and recreational sites, including Alnwick Castle and Garden, Bamburgh, Holy Island, Farne Islands, Warkworth and the Cheviot Hills. Craster itself is world famous for its kippers. Golf available locally. Shops ¾ mile, pub 400 yards.

Hemmel House sleeps six guests (with an option to use an additional child's bed in the study off the sitting room). On the ground floor is a large double-height, vaulted entrance hall, leading to a spacious open plan kitchen/dining/sitting room, with exposed beams and large full-length picture windows to two sides. There’s a further sitting room with picture window, log burner and separate study room beyond (contains an additional child's bed, if required.) The ground floor also houses an en-suite master bedroom, ideal for those with reduced mobility (see Accessibility below). In addition there is a generously sized cloakroom/wc and a separate utility room. Up the wooden staircase, to a galleried walkway, below the vaulted ceiling, the first floor houses the additional two bedrooms, one double and one twin. The twin has an ensuite bathroom with shower over bath and the double an ensuite shower room.

Please note Hemmel House is opposite Stable Cottage (sleeps 4) and Dunstan Hall (sleeps 18). Reviews

We had an outstanding stay at Hemmel House over the May bank holiday weekend for my husbands 40th, so much so that we didn’t want to leave. Upon arrival we found a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge from Beach and Quiet and a gorgeous hamper of essential foods in the kitchen gifted by the owners, which was such a lovely surprise. The house itself is amazing, I fell in love with the kitchen and the views. The decor is so stylish and the beds were super comfy which is always an important factor for us.
We can’t wait to return for another stay and Hemmel House will most certainly be our go to stay when visiting the Northumberland coast.

We had a terrific holiday. One of the nicest holiday properties we have stayed in - lovely design, great features and finish.

Very family friendly. Great base to explore the area for the first time. Big hallway and utility room make decamping from the beach and un-sanding as easy as imaginable.

We have already recommended the property to several friends!

Many thanks Jane and Jude- a few comments for you
Hemmel can mean either cowshed or heaven. We would put this wonderful house closer to the latter. The layout is generous and practical, but above all everything shouts quality. It is properly equipped, well furnished with super comfortable beds.
The house is set in beautiful countryside close to beaches. A perfect place for walking and cycling.

Dear Jude and Jane,
Thank you for your email.
We had a wonderful holiday at Hemmel House.
The house was beautiful, extremely well equipped and immaculately clean.
Thank you also for the tips on places to go and to eat - we followed your advice for restaurants and cafes and all our meals were superb! Just to mention that we were glad that we booked our evening meals well in advance as most restaurants were fully booked by the time we arrived.
We would love to return to the area in the future and would highly recommend Hemmel House :)
Best wishes,

Dear Jane ,

Thank you for being so helpful, advising on restaurants and places to go . We loved Hemmel house , the standard of everything was excellent. Good night sleep all round as the beds were really comfortable and relaxing. Idyllic place for morning coffee, watching the sheep graze. The views were amazing, the location was ideal and we had all the comforts we needed. We had some lovely walks around the area.

We would love to return one day.

Dear Jude and Jane
Hemmel House is a very special place we all throughly enjoyed our stay thank you. So well equipped warm and cosy, we even used the tripod to photograph the V rocket wednesday evening.
We only visited the local pub one evening which tells you we just didn’t want to leave the house. But of course we did explore during the day and enjoyed walks from the door and further a field.
The early part of the week breakfast on the patio started the day very well. I don’t think the back security light worked but maybe that was so you could enjoy the dark skies.
We used Serenity boats tours which were excellent to see the seals and regularly used Craster smokehouse. Holy island and Alnwick were good too. A walk from Ingram to Linhope spout waterfall very enjoyable also the hills around Cuthberts cave.
Beaches at Bamburgh, Boulmer, Benthall and of course Embleton were fantastic.
Your service was spot on thank you so much and the welcome basket made for a great start the the holiday.
We all want to return to Hemmel House if it wasn’t so far from home I think it would be sooner rather than later.
Kind regards

Dear Jude and Jane,
Thank you for a wonderful holiday.
Hemmel House is a beautiful and well appointed property.
As an architect, I loved the sense of space within the house and the dramatic vistas from it.
Everything about the house oozed quality.
The location is perfect. It proved to be a great base from which to explore Northumberland.
Can’t wait to return.
Kind regards,

The Hamilton Party, October 2021

We had a fantastic week. On arrival, everything was extremely clean and welcoming, including the food hamper - spot on! The house itself was in a lovely peaceful location with wonderful views across the fields to Dunstanburgh Castle. We really loved the design which felt extremely well considered, functional yet beautiful, making the most of the fantastic setting. Everything felt very well thought through and the house was both spacious and extremely warm and cosy. The kitchen was well equipped and a lovely space in which to cook and eat. Thank you too, for making communications simple and responsive. As ever, we ran out of days to do all the things we like to do in the region and very much hope to return soon.
