It is the combination of direct views to the sea, just a couple of minutes’ walk to the beach and its position within a small development of converted period farm buildings, that makes Emblestone View a truly special Cottage.
Embleton beach is part of England’s Coastal Path, in the shadow of the iconic Dunstanburgh Castle, at the very heart of an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The 'emblestones' on the beach en route to Newton, give the Cottage its name. This two storey, two double bedroom cottage is perfect for a small family, or one or two couples, looking for a bolthole at the very edge of some of the best sandy beaches in the country (as voted by MumsNet and Countryfile viewers). The Cottage is perfect for beach lovers, cyclists (you are right on the Coast & Castles Cycle Route No 1) nature and bird watchers, golfers, walkers and experienced paddle boarders and surfers.
Turn right on the Coastal path and walk passed the Castle and across the headland towards the picturesque village of Craster, with its historic harbour and indulge in the local produce offered by ‘The Jolly Fisherman’ pub or the’ Shoreline Café’, or simply buy some Craster kippers, smoked in the smokehouse, for next day’s breakfast! Turn left and walk onto Embleton beach and towards Dunstanburgh Golf Club and onwards towards Low Newton and ‘The Ship Inn’ (just set back from the beach). For more strenuous walking, keep going as far South as Alnmouth and as far North as Bamburgh. You can always catch the X18 coastal bus up or down the coast and walk back! The village of Embleton, and its amenities, are five minutes by car; for the fit, you could choose to just use the Embleton shop and challenge yourself to be car-free for the length of your stay! The Cottage has two outside spaces. At the front, a contemporary bench is the perfect spot for a morning coffee, overlooking the fields and onwards to the sea. At the rear, a patio style garden also has a summer house, enabling a cosy spot to sit and read and shelter from any coastal breeze.
There are a wealth of historical and recreational options nearby: Alnwick Castle and Garden, for the Harry Potter fans; Bamburgh Castle; Lindisfarne; the Farne Islands, with departures leaving regularly from Seahouses harbour, in the season; perfect for bird and nature lovers generally; Low Newton, near ‘The Ship Inn’, has bird hides beside some nature reserve pools and ‘The Ship’ has a microbrewery for a pint when you are finished and before the walk back home! For ‘Foodies’ the local pub and restaurant scene offer some of the best produce that Northumberland has to offer; there is truly something for everyone!
Emblestone View accommodates up to four people in two cosy double bedrooms (both with double beds.) The double aspect reception room has a sofa and chairs with side views to fields, as well as to the sea at the front – the log burner is centrally placed and allows for a cosy evening space in all weathers and the large desk would entice those inspired to write, having explored this evocative area during the day! Alternatively, browse the bookshelves, to find just the right book, perfect to curl up with. There's a large shelf packed with CDs to play on the CD player, or if you're musical, try your hand at the guitar! The kitchen/diner, seats 4 comfortably and has direct views over fields (part of a working farm) down to the sea; what a view to enjoy whilst dining, having cooked up a storm in the well-appointed kitchen. The kitchen contains an induction-hob (use the pans provided) an electric oven, fridge, dishwasher and a plentiful supply of crockery, glasses and cookware. The freezer and washing machine are housed in cupboards in the hallway.
A shower room completes the offering on the ground floor.
The staircase is multi-angled and polished wood, so extreme care needs to be taken, especially with any young children and those with mobility difficulties. Stair gates are not possible because of the configuration.
Halfway up the staircase, you step off for access to the rear garden and reach the patio garden by a small flight of stone steps.
Upstairs the landing has doors leading to the two double bedrooms, one with a sloped ceiling and small window onto the rear patio garden and the other with sloped ceiling and veluxe window, looking at the sea. The bathroom is also accessed from here. The landing houses a chest of drawers for additional storage.
